Les Landes

The best known surfing area in France is Les Landes. From Arcachon to Hendaye, just a few steps from the spanish border you will find endless surspots nestled between sand dunes and pines. You can surf the Grande plage or Côte des Basques in Biarritz, or go for the best known spots in Seignosse/Hossegor like La Gravière. But also Anglet, Hendaye, Cap Breton, Moliets, Bicarosse, Mimizan, Labenne, Vieux Boucaux and many more villages hosts their own surfing spots. You´ll find mostly beach breaks, best to surf at low-Mod tide, with some exceptions.
When the northwinds gets too strong and the waves too big, Hendaye is the perfect choice for you. If you prefer to meet the Atlantic answer to Saint Tropez opt for Biarritz. For those who like to mix Lifestyle, great beach, french culture and nice shopping, I would definitely go for Seignosse, Hossegor, or just south of it Cap Breton. Moliets is great for the youngsters and teenager, but can still be nice in the lower season. We recommend all intermediate and addvanced surfer to avoid it in July and august as the crowds in the water gets crazy and the knowledge of security rules and surfing etiquette is rather low.

In France, things work a little different to Morocco and Bali, so you won´t find that high end surf resort with best surfcoaching and beautiful accomodation. Still you can opt for glamping or rent a beautiful Villa or just go to a hotel and book one of the local surf schools.

Bretagne
You will also find good surfspots in the Bretagne. With a north, est and south coast there is always a working spot. It is less crowded in the lineupsbut in summer, during french holidays, the beaches get full. Best time for surftravel would be september, may and june. Be aware that water temperature is 15-18C. if you are looking for nice Surfcamps and -resorts in this area, we must admit that we didn´t find any matching our criteria, but we definetly plan to visit this area soon to find the best surfschools and beautiful places to stay.

MOLIETS PLAGE
Like most Surfcamps in Moliets, it´s nestled in the campsite of Les Cigales. The design and vibe of the camp is really nice, opt for the Glamping with camp owned showers and toilets. It´s also family friendly, but solo traveller will fit in just as good. Food is really good for camping and you can book intensive Surfcoaching with a second session every day.
